finnlough — bubble dome stay in nortern ireland
A dreamy location in the heart of northern irish woods— that’s Finnlough.
Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of spending two lovely nights decompressing from a three-month trip at their hotel and spa. The experience has been at the top of my travel bucket list for a long time, and it’s safe to say it exceeded all the expectations I’ve built for years.
Finnlough is one of those gorgeous places you’ll see go viral online, but the difference here is that Finnlough is millions of times more impressive in real life. Photos and videos don’t do justice to how beautiful, peaceful, and full of personality this place is.
Here are some of the photos I took on my Leica, and some information that may help anyone who’s also looking to tick this item off their lists, or simply looking for a calm getaway in the United Kingdom.
the bubble dome.
We were very fortunate to be welcomed at our premium dome by the most beautiful morning light. Sunny days are rare on this side of the world, so it was especially delightful to be in such a unique place when the day seemed to be smiling at us, causing the trees to dance and the light to turn the "walls" of the dome into a moving masterpiece.
The dome is incredibly comfortable, even during the coldest nights, and is equipped with everything you may need for a memorable stay. Sleeping under the stars and having a relaxing tub moment in the middle of the woods were the highlights of my time in the bubble dome. Can’t wait to be back!
the location.
Finnlough is situated in a remote location on the border between Fermanagh and Donegal, which was the reason it had been on my bucket list for so long — I had assumed I wouldn’t be able to easily reach it without driving, but I was wrong. It is possible to take a direct bus from Dublin to Enniskillen (N30), and from there, you can arrange a 30-minute taxi ride to their forest hideaway.
Pro tip: Contact Finnlough for the contact information of local taxi drivers and book in advance, and don't forget to bring cash (pounds or euros).
the spa.
Nature is their kind of therapy, and their spas invite us to disconnect from the busy everyday and reconnect with the elements of nature. They offer two spa experiences: the Trail and the Shoreline Spa. I tried both (because how could I not?!) and the Trail spa was my favorite.
The experience is beautifully designed, and the views are breathtaking. It’s honestly one of the most beautiful spas I’ve seen in my travels around the world.
